Everyting worked out in my favor for this shot in Canyonlands Park. I got up at 3am to drive to the head of the trail that takes you to this amazing rock feature. A 1/4 mile hike in the dark with my gear and headlamp was no easy task due to the fact that the trail in the sand was very faint due to the evening winds. The key to getting this shot was getting set up in the perfect spot to capture the sun just as it peeked over the distant mountains and before it got too high on the belly of the arch to create that perfect sun star. Which was about a 10 second window of opportunity. If the clouds would have been too dense this shot would have never been possible.
